Traffic bulletin: Reminder of anti-clockwise M60 weekend working at Middleton

Traffic bulletin: Reminder of anti-clockwise M60 weekend working at Middleton: Irk 7

Drivers in Greater Manchester are being reminded of roadworks around junction 19 of the M60 at Middleton and Heaton Park this weekend - with the anti-clockwise carriageway reduced to a single lane.

National Highways is delivering major wear and tear repairs on a bridge carrying the anti-clockwise carriageway over the River Irk near the exit slip road at junction 19.

The £1.3 million scheme, which started in July, includes re-waterproofing the bridge on the anti-clockwise carriageway and installing new central reservation barriers – extending the lifespan of the bridge and reducing the need for further, unplanned repairs and roadworks in the long term.

Work to complete the deck waterproofing has required the closure of all but one lane along the anti-clockwise carriageway for two weekends this month – last weekend and this.

Significant progress was made during the weekend’s lane and exit slip road closures. This weekend drivers will need to use the exit and entry slip roads at junction 19 to continue along the anti-clockwise motorway with the following arrangements in place:

  • From 6am on Saturday to 9pm on Sunday - anti-clockwise carriageway reduced to one lane but closed at junction 19 with drivers directed along the exit slip road and rejoining the anti-clockwise M60 via the entry slip road from the junction roundabout - an ‘off and on’ diversion.

Due to the likely congestion during the day on Saturday and Sunday, National Highways is urging drivers to avoid this section of the M60 if possible – including supporters leaving Etihad Stadium after the Manchester City versus Manchester United derby on Sunday evening.  Drivers are being advised to use alternative routes like the clockwise M60 instead.
