Oxford residents, motorists and football fans are reminded to plan ahead of travelling this weekend

The northbound carriageway of the A34 near Oxford will be closed this weekend for continuing resurfacing work to be carried out.

The road will be closed from the Hinksey Hill junction to the A44 Peartree interchange from 9pm on Friday (27 September) until 6am on Monday (30 September).

This follows four overnight closures this week on the same section for the essential upgrade.

We know that Oxford United are playing at home to Burnley FC on Saturday (28 September) with a 3pm kick off on Saturday. Home league attendances are expected to be 11,000+ and this is likely to exacerbate traffic in the area.

We want all fans to get to the game on time and reduce the risk of gridlock for both local residents and travellers through the area. Please plan your journey ahead and allow extra travel time.

Diversion details: There is a signed diversion route via the Oxford Ring Road.

After the weekend, there will be three further overnight closures on this section of the northbound carriageway, with the same diversion route.

Please remember that closures can change at short notice. You can check the latest information on our daily closures page or find live travel information on our Traffic England.

Notes to editors

Note: Our job is to keep the country moving and we plan all our closures extremely carefully to minimise disruption. Planning for maintenance schemes can be months in advance. In this instance the road closures for this week were booked over a year ago, before match fixtures were announced.
